AMD agrees to acquire World Labs in an approximately $8.2 billion all-stock deal

What happened

AMD announced a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs, the spatial-intelligence company led by Fei-Fei Li. AMD values the all-stock transaction at approximately $8.2 billion and expects it to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions. The announcement does not establish that the acquisition has closed.

Why it matters

AMD says the proposed combination would bring model-research expertise into its hardware and systems planning. Any integration benefits remain prospective until the transaction closes and the companies demonstrate results.

Bigger picture

The agreement connects AI model research with the design of computing infrastructure. AMD describes it as supporting an open ecosystem; this is the company's strategic rationale rather than proof that new specialised chips have already been delivered.

Watch next

Watch regulatory approvals and a formal closing announcement. Fei-Fei Li's planned AMD role and the team's integration are conditional on closing, followed by future roadmap disclosures.
