What happened

India's goods exports to core BRICS partners—China, South Africa, Brazil, and Russia—increased 34% to $19.9 billion during April-August. Shipments to China expanded 39%, leading growth alongside South Africa. Outbound trade to key non-member markets including Japan, Italy, and South Korea also rose sharply.

Why it matters

Surging demand from China is providing immediate growth for Indian exporters. At the same time, simultaneous gains across developed European and Asian markets help cushion suppliers against reliance on any single market or demand shock.

Bigger picture

Broad-based growth across both emerging BRICS economies and established industrial markets points to a structural diversification of India's international trade footprint.

Watch next

Upcoming monthly trade disclosures will clarify whether export growth persists through year-end and identify the specific product categories driving the expansion.
